The Urban Dictionary defines motor boating as: “The act of pushing one’s face in between two ample breasts, and rocking one’s head side to side very rapidly while making a vigorous, lip-vibrating ‘brrr’ sound.”
If this sounds like something you’re entertained by – but don’t want to risk pesky things like restraining orders – then the Motor Boater app is for you. The Motor Boater was an app designed as an inside joke between friends. Not only was this a hilarious exercise in raunchy pun copywriting, but it was also an interesting app to functionally develop.
The first part of the app was developed is to test motor boater aptitude, which is measured by making a “brrrrrr” sound at the animated iPhone cleavage for as long as possible. In order for this piece of the game to work, the app had to be able to recognize sound and air being blown at the screen.
Once this was up and working, a timer was developed to track player’s abilities and rank them on a scale of motor boating mastery that ranged from “Boob N00b” all the way to “Truly Titillating.” Next, the app added motor boating functionality that could be shared with friends. Players would select a lip design, and then make the phone do the motor boating for them. The lips animated in motor boating fashion, made a silly motor boating sound, and the phone itself vibrates.

As an added bonus, we also designed a website and wrote some of the social media updates to promote this app prior to launch. The crown jewel in Twitter status updates belongs to Shannon, clearly a 13 year-old boy trapped in a 30-something year old woman’s body.
Behold, the “Motor Boating Haiku”:
Oh, dirty pillows
Such soft, sweet suffocation
Epic face plant joy
(With classy poetry like that, we clearly should’ve entered this in the ADDYs that year.)
